Iron Girl 2010 Loews Lake Las Vegas photos and more…
May 17th, 2010 -  Iron Girl 2010 event this past weekend at Loews Lake las Vegas, Henderson, Nevada appears to have been a big success and fun.  We were spending a staycation at Loews this weekend and just happened on the event. This is the thrid year for this event at Loews. From what I saw the event was well-organized and ran like clock work for those involved. It helps to have great corporate sponsors behind you so you can do it right and safely. Â
 Â
During the two days we were there we met many great people some with interesting stories about why they were competing. Many of the locals train for this event on the River Mountains Loop Trail for the run and bike portions of the triathlon. I have also been advised that Loews is developing a triathlon training program for future upcoming events in the area and also at Lake Las Vegas later this year. ..more on this later.Â
As far as our stay at Loews it was an outstanding experience…it is one of Henderson’s and  Southern Nevada’s best kept secrets. Try it, you will like it.

Trail Vegas….while at Camp Vegas for Summer Camp
Curious???? Check out Las Vegas Convention and Visitor Center…..or tune back here in a day or two and learn more. Camp Vegas…..an adult Summer Camp.

Las Vegas is promoting Vegas as Camp for Grown-ups this summer…..all centered around pool parties and pool time. May we suggest hittng the trails early in the morning for a run. hike, or bike ride then hit the pools mid-day for coolness. Bring your bike or rent one locally for a fun day on the trail. Vegas gets hotter each hour the sun is up so during summer camp in Vegas we suggest trail time early….even befor the sun comes up. Of course Vegas is known for being the hottest after the sun goes down.
Remember “CAMP VEGAS – FOR GROWN-UPS” ….
River Mountains Loop Trail now found on Traillink.com
October 6, 2009 – We can now be found on traillink.com a map and trail location service provided by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. A good three and half miles of the RMLT are built on Historic Railroad bed within Lake Mead NRA. Also the RMLT links up with the official Historic Railroad Trail at the Alan Bible Visitor Center where a joint trail head is shared by both trails. By riding or hiking these two trail sections you can experience 7.5 miles of the old railroad grade used to build Hoover Dam.  So please look for us at www.Traillink.com  feel free to post comments and photos there.
Interbike Demo – Bootleg Canyon- New Belgium-River Mountains Loop Trail Sept. 21 & 22 2009
Sept. 21 & 22 2009 - For the first time the river mountains Trail Partnership participated in the Interbike Outdoor Demo held the 21st & 22nd in Boulder City. Event was held in the Bootleg Canyon Park. What impressed me as a first timer was the thousands of bike enthruist riding every type of bike you can imagine, and they were not running over each other. Temps in the low 90’s and it was windy, thus we ate a lot of dust.
Â
The real highlight for us was the partnership with “NEW BELGIUM BREWERY’ and their “Team Wonderbike” program. We shared a booth and distributed information about both the trail and the “Team Wonderbike” pledge; plus we helped sell New Belgium  “Fat Tire” t-shirts and hats.Â
Link to: http://www.newbelgium.com/team-wonderbike   The pledge goes like this: “I pledge allegiance to my bike, as a patriotic cure for America…and to the public, with whom we stand, one elation, undeniable….with community and transport for all…BIKE MORE…DRIVE LESS!”
Â
The RMTP also staffed a booth provided by Interbike at the Sands Expo for three days in the advocacy section. We were not in the main stream show floor. We did received a fair number of local retailers stopping by to learn more about the trail, sections complete and to pick up maps. The Sands exhibits were absolutely mind bloggling for a first timer like me. I had no idea how big the biking industry is…

RMLT in the News…”…best places for biking in Las Vegas?”
July 28, 2009 – This is a segment from this morning LV. Sun “Six Questions for Scott Nowicki ( Teacher in UNLV’s Department of Geosciences)” by Alexandra Berzon
Q. #5 What are the best places for biking in Las Vegas?
Red Mountain loop at Blue Diamond Highway. It’s spectacular. You’re riding on relatively quiet road and the geology is just there in front of you, all splayed out. On the other side of the valley is River Mountains Loop (Trail). It’s a paved road within this almost natural environment with huge vistas, great landscapes, and it’s safe. No cars. Those are too world-class road-riding situations, in addition to the area’s world-class mountain biking.

Safe biking will only get better in a few weeks when the Henderson to Boulder City segment is completed. The trail will be high above US 93/95 going through Railroad Pass providing panoramic views and safe travel.
