Who or what are the Three Sisters? They are three mountain ridges all in a row at the north end of the loop between mile marker #6.5 and #8. These three were given their names by bike riders in the Annual Silverman Triathlon. There average grade is around 15% up & down. For the causal rider they offer good views of east Henderson and the Las Vegas valley. We have looked at moving this segment into longer switch backs to reduce the grade, but the riders see it as a real challenge and goal to be able to make it over the top with out stopping. This last year we had several riders come in to Aid Station #10 boasting that they had made the “Three Sisters.” Some of the local riders also refer to them as the “Three Bitches”, but we prefer sisters.

I just recently learned that the BOR and Henderson have plans to make these three safer for all. Grades won’t change but various safety measures will be installed…in some cases more fill dirt along the edges so the drops are not so abrupt. We are also looking to remove and close ATV trails crossing the area. This area is also targeted for trash clean up on March 21st trail clean up event, so please come join us.

The closing of ATV trails is probably what prompted a couple of yah-hoos to ‘buzz the heard’ during the race much to my spectating horror. Luckily the cops were right on top of it but those actions did disrupt a couple of riders just before their climb up the “Sisters”.

rmltman,
Rode the trail for the first time today…loved it! My question is regarding 3 sisters. Is going up the 3 considered tougher coming from one side or the other…or, are they about the same?

Based on what I hear from Silverman bikers coming from the north head south is by far the tougher route to ride….
