Rain & Snow brings Colorful Spring Bloom…

Are you ready?  Experience has shown that  good soaking rains and yesterday’s snow will lead to a very colorful spring bloom.  Depending on the amount of rain and the depth of water soaking in we could see flowers and grasses that have been dormant for the past several years.  The forecast for the next week or two gives us hope of more rain and now is the time.  My good friend, Jim the botanists , has told me this truth over the last several years. He is a park planner for the NPS, plus was born and raised here.

So the point of this post is to get you fired up for the spring bloom of 2009.  Should start in mid-March and last through May.death-valley-flowers-22605-009-3

You can do you part by going out on the trail on every cloudy day and do the River Mountains “raindance”.

This sounds like it might make a good trail celebration? Come out and enjoy the trail, see the flowers that bloom once every so often and work on a trail project?

You know Mr. Barleycorn (?) the City of Henderson and the Partnership is planning a volunteer trail clean up day the last Saturday in March 2009. There should be some early blooms out by then. please come join us. There is alway a good group of people, refreshments, and usually a free lunch too.

Desert Bloom….depending on weather conditions could start as early as mid- February. The snow took a week to melt which allowed for a slow soaking into the soils. I think we are in for a real treat….”The Desert Bloom of 2009″.

Riding RMLT clockwise is not easy. Riding it counter-clockwise is just brutal. Either direction really is spectacular. There’s really nothing like it. I’ve been riding it since it opened.
