ATV’s and other vehciles, even cars on the trail is an illegal act. Enforcement has been random todate.
The new Trail Watch program is set up to report directly to HPD such incidents as they occur. Responding officers will ticket those caught in the act. HPD has budgeted for new officers to specifically patrol Henderson trails starting very soon. All you have to do is stay off the River Mountains Loop Trail. There are cross over points provided for access into the River Mountains, use them.

It appears that the police in Boulder City are not ticketing people for driving on the trail. I was hiking the trail last evening (Sunday, 9/20/09, 6:30 p.m.) when I came upon three cars parked along the trail in the area behind the Veteran’s Home in Boulder City. It looked like some sort of commercial enterprise was taking place-a photographer, with a lot of equipment, was taking photos of a young couple. The photographer was directing the couple to pose in various ways. I reported this to the BC police then continued my hike. A few minutes later, from a point higher up, I saw a police car drive up the trail to the place where the cars were parked. I was too far away to see what happened, but the cop left after two minutes. It would take more than two minutes to write a ticket, even a warning ticket, for a single vehicle, much less three vehicles, so I presume no tickets were issued. Even worse, the three cars did not leave for another ten minutes. I would have thought that the police officer would have made the cars leave immediately, at the very least, or even escorted the cars out of there, since the cars had to drive on the trail to get back to the road–but no, the cop left immediately and the cars stayed for 10 more minutes. By the time the cars left I had circled back around and I could hear raucous laughter coming from the people with the cars.
I now wish that I had used my camera to get photos and/or a video of the whole incident. I got the license plate numbers, but now I wonder why I bothered calling the police at all. It’s clear that policing the trail is a low priority for the BC police.

The portion of trail referenced in this comment is still under the control of the contractor. It is not complete, nor signed. Once the trail is complete and turned over to Boulder City, measures will be in place to control vehicle access.
Thanks you for your concern and comments.
